Finding a Job

When you apply for a job, consider how you would like to stand out amongst other applicants.  This can translate into the appearance and content of both your cover letter and resume.  Basic examples are provided below.  Consider how little time an employer may have to review your documents.  The employer must be able to review your application quickly and decisively, so make it easy for them to see and understand the important points.  Check that headings line up and are easily read, job title, dates and tasks can be easily spotted and understood.  Have parents or other persons proofread.

A cover letter gets an employer to read your resume closely; it makes sure your resume goes to the correct person in the company; it states that your resume is attached; it summarizes the skills you have that match their needs; and it should complement your resume.
